WET TUNED PIPE SYSTEM VRS DRY TUNED PIPE SYSTEM

In this corner we have the ever popular “Wet-Tuned Exhaust System”
In the other corner we have the more conventional “Dry Tuned pipe System”
Both are great contenders, and both excel in certain areas. We will introduce you to the opponents, I mean components, and you can make the ultimate decision on which one is the winner for you.

Wet Tuned Exhaust System

Warehouse Hobbies / Enforcer introduced this now popular tuned exhaust system way back in 1988 and is actually the most popular choice of system for the sport performance gas model boater.

Q -What does “Wet Tuned Exhaust” mean?
A- It's simple, it means that water is injected into the tuned pipe while in operation and is expelled through the exhaust end.

Q-Why is the water injected into the tuned pipe?
A- By injecting the correct amount of water into the heated tuned pipe two things occur. The first is the water quickly turns to steam and this reaction seems to change the conditions inside the pipe to return the sound wave to the exhaust port quicker resulting in a smaller pipe than would be the norm as in a Dry Tuned Pipe. The second thing, or the byproduct was the fact that the water cooled the pipe and also lowered the exhaust tone to that similar of a personal water craft.

Q- Does the water effect the performance?
A- Yes it does as a matter of fact when compared to a dry pipe. In fact we normally tell our customers that a Wet Tuned System is about 75% effective compared to a Dry Tuned System. The benefits of the Wet Tuned System when taken into consideration are well worth the loss to the average model boater. Such benefits are: Operating temperatures usually not exceeding 100 degrees, Lower exhaust tone, completely concealed exhaust system, and best of all almost 100% maintenance free.

Dry Tuned Exhaust System

We tool and manufacture all of our tuned pipes and components. We utilize the best materials and methods of manufacturing, such as: Hydro-Forming, and internal mandrel bending, this enables us to produce quality and consistency at affordable pricing.

Q- What is a “Dry Tuned Exhaust System”
A- Just like the name implies there is no water introduced inside the tuned pipe. This is the most efficient form of exhaust tuning for a two cycle engine.

Q- OK, so we heard it is the best for performance, what is the down side?
A- The downside is very minimal when installed correctly. The Dry Tuned pipe will bring the beast out of your engine, especially if it is modified. In Dyno testing it is common to see a RPM gain of 1,000, 1,500 by installing this type of tuned pipe. The pipe tends to run considerably hot at temperatures from 200+ degrees at the header to 150+ on the pipe itself, so care must be taken when installing. You must keep at least 1/4” clearance between the pipe components and the surrounding components. We make several different header configurations that will enable you to construct the proper length system for different hull styles.

Q- Is that it?
A- Not quite. Tuning length is important and there can be a little maintenance such as replacing the special high temp O-rings located in the (water-cooled) exhaust manifold and the (water-cooled) pipe couple or inner-cooler. It is no big deal though, and the replacement parts are mere pennies. For the high speed junky this is a walk in the park for the improvement in top end speed.
